Vintage table lamp, 1970s ceramic base and patterned lampshade

This ceramic lamp base is a piece typical of the late 1970s.

This bulbous and lobed silhouette, often referred to as a "melon" or "garlic" shape, was extremely popular in French design of that era. There was a desire at the time to return to softer, more natural forms.

The glazed ceramic in a uniform cream or ivory tone is characteristic of the quality mass production of those decades. It was the elegant and understated alternative to the gaudier colors of the 60s.
